La le Padraig (as the Irish might say), or Happy St. Patrick’s Day! This uniquely Irish holiday is one we are all very familiar with, but who was St. Patrick, why are four leaf clovers lucky, what really is a leprechaun, and why do you keep pinching me?

    St. Patrick’s Day is always celebrated on March 17th.
  2. Who was St. Patrick?
    St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. He is credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland during the 4th century A.D.

    A shamrock is a three leaf clover, and is the national flower of Ireland. Each leaf of the shamrock represents one part of the Holy Trinity; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

    Four leaf clovers are lucky because they are very hard to find. A person can search clover patches for a thousand years and never find one.
  5. What is a leprechaun?
    A leprechaun is an Irish fairy that looks like a little old man. He is about two feet tall and dresses like a shoemaker.
