Tuna salad

making tuna saladTuna fish is an excellent food for healthy eating, it’s packed full of nutrients and vitamins and can be combined in a variety of recipes your kids will love. Tuna salad is an easy recipe to make any time of day and can be eaten with a number of different items. Add in your own extra ingredients such as eggs, or onions or keep it simple. The easiest recipe is simply tuna and mayonaise, here’s a slightly more flavorful version to try.

Tuna salad is great:

  • by itself
  • added to a veggie salad
  • on bread as a sandwich
  • as a topping on crackers

You will need:

  • 1 can well drained Tuna fish (use the “in water” variety)
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons sweet pickle relish

How to make it:

  • Combine all ingredients in a bowl and stir until well mixed
  • You can replace the mayo with Miracle Whip or “salad dressing”.

Note: If you use the canned tuna in oil, be aware that your tuna salad will have more of a “mushy” texture.

Let your preschooler help prepare this food by stirring the ingredients together.
